Branding and Social Media of Farfly Media

My journey with branding my work online has been long and tumultuous. Originally, i used to share my work on Instagram under the name HJB.Visuals. I maintained this name, or some variation of this until i launched the agency model Farfly Media.

My vow to "Not spend too long customising my character"

I have a tendency with Video Games, to purchase the game then when i have the opportunity to customise my playable character i will spend hours on customising my character making them look perfect. During this time, in multiplayer games, my friends who i'd plan on playing with would get ahead and start racing through the game. When launching Farfly i decided that i wouldn't spend too long worrying about what to call my company or the logo initially as i wanted to get started with building and developing. I fancied the idea of having something to do with flying, as i wanted the association with raising business sales. I originally landed on Free Fly Media, but after creating the logo designed off of two F's in the shape of a wing, i then realised that name was taken, then Viola! Farfly was Born!

The Logo

I came to university with the intention of being a graphic deisgner, and i was well versed in design so i decided to give making my own logo a shot. My original branding for Farfly was bright orange. I designed the logo myself on Illustrator

I had a few considerations when making this logo, when i started Farfly Media i was doing a lot of sports videography. I wanted to continue working in adventure, sports and action packed industry's i wanted the logo to be simplistic, sporty but professional. I think at the time this was the perfect logo. However, on reflection, i now find this logo slightly too aggressive looking as the industries i work in has drastically changed since the birth of Farfly.

I designed my website with these colours too originally, however, theres not much left that i can show you of that website apart from the tattered shell of a website that i left it in before upgrading! Here's a snapshot!

About a year after launch, i had a 'rebrand' where i essentially just upgraded my current branding. I had my logo looked at by two friends studying graphic design and changed the colours to try to connote a less playful and more trustworthy and authentic brand.

As you can see from the revised branding and website, the changes weren't drastic. But they were enough to significantly change the brand perception.

Social Media became quite a struggle for me after launching Farfly Media, i felt that i just couldn't prioritise it on a regular basis and i couldn't produce content as frequently as i felt the platforms required in order to get a return on my investment in time. I felt a lot of pressure when i created the Farfly Instagram and generally got pretty overwhelmed by it.

I landed on creating three post per project on Instagram. Each of the posts' thumbnails would match the last creating the appearance of a 1x3 image. This was inspired by one of my personal inspirations, a user called @Lobo__films on instagram, however i put my own spin on it by creating diagonal images which had originally intended to line up perfectly with the row below, but this took me quite a while to get perfect.
